Clean-Energy Partnerships: Developing Global Solutions
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and a host of other key organizations will hold an international conference on energy efficiency and renewable energy November 14 – 16, 1999 in Seattle, WA. The conference will focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency success stories, financial, policy, and technical tools. The goal of the conference is to develop partnerships which result in the rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewable fuels as a solution to global warming. Select speakers and participants include:

Mexico Cogeneration
Instalaciones y Montajes Industriales is seeking machinery to burn municipal solid and industrial waste to produce electric and thermal energy (cogeneration). Letters of interest due November 20, 1999.

Colombia Refrigeration, Process Controls, and Meters
Intercity Products de Colombia Ltd wishes to contact US manufacturers of energy efficient equipment and systems for refrigeration, process control, and metering, to represent and distribute their products.

Sri Lanka Building Materials
Sherman Sons Ltd is looking to buy energy efficient building materials for office buildings and hotels, including: HVAC, process controls, electric meters, energy management systems, insulation and building materials, CFLs, sensors, and windows.

Egypt Electric Meters
The Egyptian Electricity Authority invites bids (from US firms only) for installing time of day electric meters throughout Egypt for load research/analysis, for eventually designing time of use rates. The project requires 3,000 IEC certified electric meters, and associated meter reading system, load research and analysis tools (software applications), and associated training. Payment will be in US dollars and financing will be provided by the US Agency for International Development.

Financing Corner: World Bank to Approve Brazil Efficiency Loan
The World Bank appears ready to approve a landmark $43.4 million energy-efficiency loan to Eletrobras, Brazil’s national electric utility holding company. The loan will support the implementation of commercial technologies ranging from energy-efficient streetlights to energy-efficient industrial motors. Part of the loan will be used to hire energy service companies to retrofit government buildings. For more information, contact ECEE.
